The Royal Bank Foundation as part of its commitment to keeping the environment clean and devoid of insanitary conditions has donated cleaning equipment and disinfectants to the Sunyani Municipal Assembly in support of the National Sanitation Day. The items worth GH10,000.00 included Wheelbarrows, Rakes, Shovels, Wellington boots, Cutlasses, Drain brushes, Reflector Jackets, Hand Gloves , Long brooms, Izal Disinfectants, Sachet/bottled water, drinks and T’ Shirts.
Making the presentation, Mr. Opoku Amponsah, Branch Manager of the Bank in Sunyani emphasized the commitment of the Bank to supporting the Municipal Assembly to keep the City clean. He said “staff of the Bank also live in these communities, so we will not only be donating equipment, but will be taking active part in clean-up campaign” he asserted. Staff of the Bank who took part in the clean-up exercise commended the Municipal Assembly for taking the initiative and pledged to be part of subsequent events.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Regional Minister, the Municipal Chief Executive – Kwasi Oppong Ababio, expressed his appreciation to The Royal Bank Foundation for the support and entreated other organizations to emulate the gesture. Present at the ceremony was the Municipal Cordinating Director, Municipal Environmental Officer, PRO, Municipal Finance Officer and some selected Media houses in Sunyani.
The National Sanitation day is a voluntary clean up exercise for all Ghanaians in an effort to reduce insanitary conditions that breed diseases and causes death. The day was declared by a former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Mr. Julius Debra, after an outbreak of cholera in 2014 that killed more than one hundred Ghanaians.
